![]() ![]() + Flaws of the Game: The problem with the game, unfortunately, is the fact there's a law of conservation of monsters. It makes sense, though, because you can't have a stand-in for Aliens without having a stand in for Burke. Again, I'm spoiled all to hell so I know Kendra is actually a spy for the EVIL EarthGovernment. + I like the characters accompanying Isaac as well with Hammond and Kendra both having a good deal of development. I think this is also one of the few video games I think would make a good transition to the movie screen. There's some truly imaginative sets with a few genuinely breathtaking images scattered throughout-and that's only the sections I've seen. + This is, by the way, an absolutely BEAUTIFUL game and the fact its' eight years old doesn't impact how lovely it is even almost a decade later. + I'm not a big fan of Isaac Clarke's silent protagonist business, even though I defended it in Dishonored because I can't help but feel my realism was impacted by lacking the occasional, "Oh shit!" Also, it's hard to get invested in Isaac's quest for Nicole since he never mentions what sort of relationship they have or how he feels about her. If you're going to be problematic in fridging a character then be problematic in an awesome way. ![]() ![]() I'm kind of off-put by using Nicole as yet another Damsel in Distress but, oddly enough, I don't mind the "twist" which I have already been spoiled on. You are Isaac Clarke, engineer almost certainly descended from Gordon Freeman, who is going after his girlfriend Nicole on a ship which has fallen prey to UNKNOWN FORCES (monsters). + For those unfamiliar with the game, it's basically Alien meets Mass Effect with the system of Resident Evil. Also, I think Isaac is one of my favorite video game protagonist designs. However, I've decided to do the game again and its sequels because I really enjoy the atmosphere, storytelling, and characterization. I could never get past the turret section where you're shooting asteroids and gave up after the fiftieth or so failure to save the Ishimura. + I have a confession to make, I've only played part of the first Dead Space game. ![]()
